Our home group had tagged this night. In September, we noted that New Year’s Eve landed on one of our nights and made a date. The actual plans for the gathering didn’t materialize till a week before, but it’s been on my mental calendar. This was the first full energy day Wayne’s had since stomach virus of Saturday. He stepped up and made breaded pork chops from smittenkitchen, our new favorite food/recipe site. Sprague brought an amazing savory bread pudding. There was the massaged kale (the most relaxed kale I’ve ever eaten) and a plethera of deserts- cookies and carrot cake. No one wanted a slice of our pumpkin cheesecake. The kids watched Monsters Inc. The adults counted down the East Coast New Year. Wayne and I got some good sleep for our last night of 2009.
The set up: I’ve finished work. I’ve been ordered to grocery shop for our New Year’s Festivities. I won’t get home for an hour. Wayne is home with the girls. I decide to grab dinner. My mind starts working. What’s good? What’s between here and the store? I settle on Annie’s crepes. I haven’t been there for over a year since I went there on a girl’s night out and it was so crowded we had to wait 30 min to get in. It’s 5:30pm on a Tuesday and the place is empty. I get seated. One of the staff is finishing dinner. He tells me they’ve been busy all day and this is his first moment to sit. I’m glad for that news- that this fledgling restaurant is busy 1 yr later. But the emptiness gets me a dinner quick. Plus it’s crepes and what’s quicker than that.
So in a few moments, I had roasted chicken, mushroom, mozzarella, spinach buckwheat crepe for $10. Not bad. And energy to shop. It was refreshing to actually shop without the kids. My mind is less busy when I don’t have to mind another being. Easier to focus.

Taking it to a whole new level. Whatever. That movie was just plain fun and a blast to look at. It’s ground breaking and lovely to watch.
Had a great date with Heather and Scott. Ate at Thai Siam. Still a great place. I always forget how busy they are on Sundays (classic take out night).
Sinking into Xmas as a season. Love that I have 12 days to soak this all up. I don’t have to rush to take the tree down. I can smell the pine. We can play with the toys, read the books, play with the crafts. The comics were all about let downs and post-holiday melancholy. That’s what I like best about knowing Jesus. It’s not just one day. It’s a life and a love.

The weather has been cold, but sunny. It’s been a little galling not to make it outside. Today, we had success, but with casulties.
Wayne was gunning to “getter done”. He started planning to fix my flat tire. We still moved slowly. Both the girls got showers, spa treatment, and pedicures. We watched an hour long special Thomas the Train. I miss the stop motion. It seemed more innocent before. Now the benign tyrannical nature of Mr. Toppenhat just seems to be plain tyrranical with trains hoping they’re not scrapped for being useless.
We ate simpler today. We still didn’t get to Greenlake till 10:45am. We didn’t get home till 1:30pm. The girls skipped and ran the first half mile. Then we pushed them in the Chariot. We had a fun stop at the playground and I got to photograph some.
I convinced Wayne we should lunch at Zeeks. It was nice to bathroom and get food and warm up. Wayne got a slice of sausage gorgonzola pizza while we got cheese. I noticed the Ben and Jerry’s next door is closed till March. Odd.
The kids rode the rest of the way and wrestled in the Chariot. Adults got excellent exercise. Naps.
Casulties: not much more got done around the house. Wayne is sick from food poisoning. He’s thrown up once and had continuous stomach cramps.
I got to talk to my family and wish all a Merry Xmas. I cared for the kids and tried to be nurse. We went over to water the neighbors Xmas tree. I got the dishes cleaned, mostly.
We read more books. The kids love the new Bill Peet books they got. The illustrations rock.

1. Oil. The oil guy came and couldn’t open the access to the tank the day before Xmas. Wayne fixed it, but we entertained the real possibility of not having heat for the weekend. Sara, at 6yo, is getting the concept that that might have been uncomfortable. She asked some good questions and is starting to listen to our adult talk. I discovered the bill on the back door this morning confirming oil was indeed delivered. Merry Xmas!
2. Google Analytics. Wayne installed this for me. I makes me smile. Tech gifts from tech geeks are the best
