We had J&C’s annual Oktoberfest. It’s fun to see how things stay the same and how things change. Wayne and I both woke up tired today. Me because I stayed up till 1am and Wayne because of a headache and maybe the energy drain of a fun game of D&D as dungeon master.
Church was a breath of fresh air for our dragging souls. We talked about evangelism. Despite all the political and cultural overtones of the word, it just means sharing good news. And that’s what it truly is, good news in a world filled with bad news. Are you paying attention? Are you available? Good questions for most of life.
We next faced the lovely Sabbath question, naps before Oktoberfest or after? We decided after. Laura was dragging a bit. She perked up in the cool air. It’s likely the last sunny day of the week. And what a gloriously sunny fall day it was. Everyone was out and doing stuff. We walked to J&Cs.
The Oktoberfest stays the same…the fest table, 3 types of grilled sausage from Bavaria Meats, pretzels from Morningstar, beer, coke, and sweet Bavarian mustard. The change involves kids. Lucy joined us this year. My kids are bigger. The neighbor kids are bigger. 2 kids (Sara included) had started kindergarten.
We opened the celebration and closed it. Naps didn’t happen till 4pm. Everyone needed them. We didn’t wake up till dinnertime. We had breakfast for dinner.
The sabbath feeling has slipped away and it’s time to prepare for the week. Hopefully one with less change. I am profoundly grateful that my sis-in-law is out of the hospital and doing better.
Staying up way to late organizing school stuff. I’ve erased old school stuff and replaced it with new school stuff. Changed the emergency form…again. Added tons of new addresses. Tired of filling out forms. Ready to sleep.
Had nice day at D&D. Wayne was dungeon master. It has been like he’s studying for a final at school. I’m glad he’s having fun while he’s doing it.
We got all the fams together afterwards. This is always a hit with Sara and Laura.
Got haircuts today. I stayed at home (hallelujah!).

Spur of the moment. Picked Sara up early and hustled down to Puyallup to celebrate Sara completing 2 weeks of school at 2 different schools. She’s taking the change like a trooper bragging that she has 2 friends already, “but hasn’t asked their names yet.” Celebrating Laura’s good efforts at potty training. Dry overnight and went on the toilet 5 times today. Yeah!
Horses, draft and shetland. Bad fair food. Can’t they get french fries right? Lovely kettle corn (that was the real dinner). Get more cash. Get expensive ride tickets. Watch kids have blast on merry-go-round and ball pit.
They get to stay in ball pit for 10 minutes! More horses- quarter horses doing pole racing. Petting zoo. Running in a grassy knoll under the shadow of the ferris wheel while fellow fair-goer does prayer to Mecca. Cotton candy reigns. Tired drive home. Night, night.

I’ve had the yawns all afternoon.
Laura has been going potty once or twice per day.
Both girls tried on Halloween costumes today (bought at Costco). The costume for Laura is Thumbelina, but she is “Ariel”. Don’t tell her! Sara looks beautiful as Cinderella.
Laura made 5 different drawings of “chickens”. They are black chicken scratch drawings. She hung every one up on the frig.
Sara made her own lunch today. That means she gets to lick the knife of nutella when she’s done.
