Toddler day

Filed under: General — Karen @ 10:22 pm

It’s 10pm and my daughter just went to sleep. We just got home from our annual church swim party. It takes place at the Magnolia Pool with a toddler pool at 90 degrees. Sara got to finally show off her swimming skills to her Dad. I socialized for the hour. Afterwards were snacks and talking.

I finally got to cook with Sara today. She helped me put together the brownie mix. She them played with the chocolate water in the sink for another 30 minutes while I made pizza from scratch. When the brownies were our and I let her eat one before dinner, she proudly pronounced, “I like brownies.” My pizza came out good too. It’s fun to get back into cooking after 5 weeks enjoying my Mom’s take over of the kitchen.

Sara sleeps with about 4 pacifiers. She’s gotten very attached to a green one this week. This morning she brought it up to me while I was washing dishes declaring it “dirty”. I proceeded to wash it. She then took it and put it in the drawer with the ziploc bags. I forgot about this episode. At naptime, “where’s my green baa-baa?!!!” Finally at dinner, I was putting away some food and I stumbled upon it. We got a good laugh out of that.

Sara also had a good cry today. We managed to get out of the house and walk 7 blocks to our local park. Sara had her heart set on swinging in the baby swings with her stuffed cat. Only when I got there did I realize I’d have to lift her to the swing. I tried to convince her to climb up with my help in a kids swing. No budging my crying upset child. We walked the 7 blocks back with inconsolable crying. Lunch and a nap eventually shortcircuited the crying.

A day in the life of a toddler.

Friends with a boat

Filed under: General — Karen @ 10:50 pm

The ultimate in socializing in Seattle is to achieve an invitation from a friend with a boat. Now our neighbors, Ken and Erica, have a boat. It’s 50 years old antique Brunswick speed boat. We got an invitation to join them on Lake Union.
Ken and Erica boat like they live, with joy. We puttered slowly through Ballard and Fremont, enjoying the underside of bridges. Sara got to look at a duck and a Canadian goose eye to eye. She brought her toy posse along and played in the back of the boat. She’s particularly enamored with Erica and wanted to share a seat with her up front.
We pulled up to the dock at Ivar’s and walked up to a table to enjoy beer and fish&chips. We circled Lake Union drinking wine and eating homemade brownies a la Erica. We passed the ship used in Pirates of the Caribbean. We headed back to the Ship Canal and sampled wild blackberries as the boat was unloaded. Summer fun continues.
