We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary this weekend. Now that we can no longer officially be considered newly-weds we celebrated by simply staying home, sleeping late, eating great food and soaking up the sun on the first nice spring weekend up here in Seattle.
We also saw, “A Mighty Wind” with some friends today. I loved it, probably not everyone’s cup of tea but the ad-libbed performances were rather amazing.
We also went to see this wonderful antique carousel exhibit at the science center. As you can tell from the picture below Karen is a big fan of these circular entertainment devices.

Frankly they scare me to death, especially the demonic looking horses and the fact that thing goes so fast they have to scrape kids off the wall after every whirl of the mind bending, nausea inducing blender.
In all seriousness the exhibit was great and gave us a chance to really play with the new D100 camera, which I had really wanted to do after attending a seminar by George Lepp at the Mountaineers earlier in the week.

We went to the Skagit Valley this weekend to celebrate a yearly tradition up here in the Northwest. Each year in spring the Skagit Valley has a tulip festival. We normally go to the farm called Roozengaarde, they have a little garden and windmill and some nice tulip fields. It was kinda rainy, but that made for some nice even lighting for taking close up shots of the flowers.

Say hi to “Chewie” (short for Chewbacca).

So now on to the pertinent facts. Karen is due Nov. 13th. She has evening sickness. We don’t know the sex yet, but plan to find out in another couple of months. It also didn’t really sink in that we are having a child until I saw the heartbeat on ultrasound and the cute little thing waved at us.
We are both quite excited to be new parents and the blog will probably be bursting with kid pictures once the big day arrives.

We had a nice trip back to Atlanta last week. I was making my annual trip to give a lecture to Irfan Essa’s animation and visual effects class. Basically I talked about Pixar’s production process on the movie “Monster’s Inc”.
On Friday we went to visit the Botanical Gardens. Spring was in full bloom and the weather was really nice. The only down side was that the pollen count was at a 5 year high. Luckily I had a daily supply of Claritin and used it. The visit to the gardens was a family affair. Our neice and nephew (and their friend) had a great time.

The trees were in bloom and the orchid garden was simply amazing, as seen in the two pictures below.

Then we went to visit my parent’s, but it turns out my cousin Todd and his wife Christie had a new arrival in their family the night before, so we went to visit the beautiful 12 hour old bundle of joy.

Later that afternoon we went to visit my other cousin Kirk and got to see his new house. His daughter was very cute and I had fun with the new Nikon D100 SLR digital camera.

Sunday was spent eating good southern food. Karen had a craving for hush-puppies and I got fresh pole beans and meatloaf. The sweet tea was a nice addition to the whole meal.
