Got packed by 8:30ish last night. Packed the car this morning. Wayne up at 5:30am, me at 6:00.

Left at 7:15am. Pretty good. Missed the 7:50 ferry by a few cars. Waited fr the 8:50 ferry. Enjoyed a messy doughnut/kringle breakfast from Larsens.

1045 Bathroomed at the Safeway in Port Angeles. Starbucks + bathrooms = happiness.

1100 the sun makes me happy. The leaves changing on the trees makes this feel like a fall vacation. It’s the first time Wayne’s been over the new Hood Canal bridge. Mountains look gorgeous. It’s fun to actually explore in our backyard. I guess I did go to Sequim. Laura chose Alice in wonderland as a movie. Finally a break from Ice Age and Tinkerbell.

Driving by Lake Crescent.

1300 hour stop at Ken M. Knor Memorial Park in Forks. What a
Blast. Great playground. Fun obstacle
Course for adults, covered shelter, real tanks and train engine. Ate cold Pagliacci pizza for lunch. Sooo good.

Driving thru Forks is revealing. Wayne thinks they could just rename the town
Twilight. Every store throws up a twilight sign. My favorite is “Twilight firewood”. It’s a much smaller town than portrayed in the movies. More run down, too. The lumber industry seems to have less of a presence since our honeymoon in 1993.

Business.

Arrived at Kalaloch about 1:45pm. Laura barely took a nap and was tired and silly and floppy the rest of the day. Putting up camp was a relaxed affair for me. I hung out with my parents. They chipped in here and there. The kids jumped out and immediately started playing with horses. Laura found an old rope tied to a tree and had a blast tying sticks to it and experimenting with balance.

We sat around for awhile and then decided to trade dalliance for a beach walk. Wayne carried all the kites. I forget what a fun stunt kite flyer my husband is. We do this hobby about once a year. The kids played and dug and got dirty. Dad and I photoed. Laura wandered in her way. Wayne flew the shark kite. As he was reeling in it and the line slipped from his hands. It did a Charlie Brown and landed up the cliff in bushes. A kind man went up and loosed it. I ran to help Wayne. I’m glad there were 4 adults. Kids and kites alike get into trouble.

Wayne retrained me on the foil kite. It looks like a huge pillow and is fun to fly. I tried pull stunts, but crashed it a lot. When I had it in the strong breeze, it was fun to fly.

Dinner was a blessing. Good burgers from TJs. Hotdogs. Salad. Chips…just sustenance. The kids were covered in sand and needed a through cleaning. There’s no shower (beach or otherwise) so cleaning is tricky.

Fire. Smores. Blazing light thru the trees from sunset. Skipped another walk on the beach. Afraid to go thru another cleaning so soon. Can’t leave the fire. So we each catch a glimpse from the cliff. We skip the ranger program and opt for bed.

That’s black and silver, our bike train. My silver and blue Cannondale ( we even say,”hi ho Silver!” in remembrance of the masked man) and the Adams tandem trail-a-bike is Black (as in stallion).

We picked up doughnuts for our ferry breakfast at the bakery. We stopped by Sara’s school to see her new class. She’s going to be in a 2nd grade class with 4 other first graders. One of her buddies is in the class which is nice. We stopped by our friend’s house to drop off treats. I got to ooh and aah at twin babies and meet her family.

I’ve been reading a lectionary from the PC USA church website for my quiet time. I like it for a host of reasons. It’s exciting. I pop onto my phone and have 5 exerts of the Bible immediately at my finger tips. It’s doable. I can read a part or all depending on the day. It’s mobile with my iPhone.

In summary, it works for me. I’ve been struggling to increase my exposure to the Bible in this crazy, busy life with work and kids and this seems a good way.

I’ve been in glacier all last week and had no Internet access- obvious flaw of this system. So it was kinda fun to trip onto the new bible selections- smack in the middle of Job!

Job 10
1″I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

I think this is a cool statement. I can tell God anything. Life is not always roses. David in Psalms models this without restraint. I’ve been here at times, but always feel the need to be “positive”. Not necessary with God.

4Do you have eyes of flesh? Do you see as humans see? 5Are your days like the days of mortals, or your years like human years,

It’s ironic to see these words knowing what Jesus did. God became man. He came down and had eyes of flesh for 30 yrs. He knew tiredness, fear, hunger…everything we experience. That seems like a big deal to me.

Acts 11:17 from Peter
“…who was I that I could hinder God?”
Peter sounds almost confused. There seems to be shrug in his voice as well as awe. This is a man who walked besides Jesus. He knows something about the power of God. He still sounds surprised by the insertion of a vision that marks a huge policy change to young Christianity. God’s saying include the Gentiles and start acting mature. It’s nice to know that like the rain, an earthquake, the march of time, I can’t hinder or stop God. Luckily, I get to be with him.

I did not expect that today. I knew it was going to be cold. But it was COLD.

Off we went to the Marsh Walk, the Arboretum Waterside walk, the Foster Island walk, the boardwalk walk…whatever you call it. Last time, I tried to take a stroller on it (which worked to varying degrees). But it had been awhile. This time, the girls called it the “eat blackberries walk”. That is what we did. We found them everyplace we could. My best image is Dad chasing the kids into the dark tunnel canopy covered trail and hoping he could handle them. I certainly wasn’t running after them. I’m feeling more and more comfortable with my kids. I didn’t need to hold hands as much (so they don’t dump into the water). They seem to have figured that part out. ‘Course, the skies opened up on us.

So we did the best we could and headed to Tutta Bella. The pizza was great. Tried a prosciutto, fig, goat cheese, balsalmic reduction sauce pizza (amazing!), a pancetta with fire roasted tomatoes, and a veggie. Then we all had gelato. I shared a salted carmel chip (intrigued by the take on Molly Moons, not as good), but amazed by the chocolate gelato Sara shared with me. Dark chocolate! Amazing. Tutta Bella’s never fails to please.

Edith mentioned Irwin’s in Wallingford is good for scones. Might have to trial it sometime.
