Happy hour

Wayne and I have both had colds this week. I haven’t been able to hear since I touched down in Seattle. It’s very disconcerting not to be able to hear out of my right ear due to fluid. It gets worse with lots of ambient noise around. For our last Grandparents, Inc. overnight, we settled on a night in. We had leftover pizza from Monday night my Mom had made.

Then I read the review for the Golden Beetle. I thought about the fact it was happy hour. I called Wayne and asked if he wanted to go out. No, was the answer. So I settled in. Then a text. Yes I would meet him in downtown Ballard. So we went to the Golden Beetle. It’s in the lovely old digs of the Market Street Bistro (I miss the restaurant). It’s owned and conceived by the owner of Tilth. I LOVE Tilth. But the cuisine is Mediterranean. It’s not often our favorite ethic food. Still, at $4 per plate, I could experiment. We essentially got the entire happy hour menu minus the olives.

sweet and spicy almonds
fries with sumac and stuff
spicy chicken wings
chickpea lamb salad (amazing)
pita bread with hummus (nice gourmet variation, fluffy pita)
cinnamon donuts with acacia syrup

All different. Most good. It made for a good meal. The chickpea salad is on my list of meals to remember.
