Nutella!

The week is a flurry of more things then I can talk about right now.
We are starting another busy season of travel, going on till school starts. But in the fury and hurry, I slowed down for Nutella. I was flipping thru my thousands of food blogs. Just as Sara walked by, I called her over.
“Look! They have a recipe for Nutella brownies.”
Translation: “Let’s spend an hour making sugary things I don’t need while I should be packing.”
Mature translation: “Let me enjoy my kids in the midst of my chores and business.”

There is not regret. I have more things to do, but it was a lovely bonding experience. And we reaped the benefits on the night before a brief separation.

The brownies were wonderful. We’re Ghiradelli mix people usually. I found the mix tasted as good as my homemade version and switched to ease years ago. Sara read out the recipe. We problem solved fractions. I produced word problems. Laura stirred. Sara grew more confident around the stove. We all fell into a sugar coma together around the table.

There was also cuddling and lots of reading tonight. We’ve been exploring some myths. Greek- Persephone was popular. Of course, pegasus- who’s medusa? Next myth. Nordic-an eight legged steed of Odin. Did Loki (a guy) really give birth to a horse when he transformed? Learning about the birth of the world thru Norse eyes- some of us were created from the left armpit of a jotun (giant). If you watched Thor, some of these terms are familiar. I was I inspired to get these for that movie. I had to pronounce odd words like Ygg. It matches since we went to Viking days festival a few
weeks ago. The girls have asked for Samson and Delilah, the Tomie de Paola version like 3 times. They’re fascinated with him getting his eyes gouged out by the Philistines. We talked about nagging as a negative trait. It showed up in Paul Zelinsky’s version of Hansel and Gretel. That was an expansion of the fairy tale I didn’t remember in great detail. The girls were fascinated with candy house.

Life has slid along despite bad news nipping at my heels.
