Wayne and I think that this might be THE best weekend of the year. As we were sitting out at dinner, we were realizing we were comfortable. That is rare in this seaside neighborhood. We get winds that blow in around dinner that often chase us off our deck as the sunsets. Not tonight. The breeze was pleasant. Comfortable even. No Northwest fleece required. Even in the driest month of August, we don’t regularly get nights without the coolness decending on us. So this weekend stretched into the evening. I called it our weekend of Jubilee. We just sabbathed the whole weekend. Yardwork, ikea shopping, everything got pushed aside for enjoyment.
Today was church. Afterwards, we headed to the Ballard Market. Our first time in a while. We stopped at Veraci and got pizza. They almost ran out of cheese (heresy in my kids eyes). We had to stop at Clover to check out the toys. We’ve been to two of our favorite toy stores in 24 hrs…Clover and Top Ten Toys. We bought nectarine jam, some apple cider, and salad greens- Hornet and Oakleaf (not normal names for my salad). I could not find ramps.
We checked out Card Kingdom, our new gaming store that’s as big as a Barnes and Nobles. It’s fun. We bought Wayne an early Father’s Day present. It looks like a fun place to eat, too.
Then to the park. We found flat cement and let Laura get her bike legs under her again. She can ride without wheels, but is not ready for the streets or hills or uneven ground. I lay in the sun and basked.
We stopped by the library for books and Wayne went to QFC to get some Copper River salmon!! Wayne wanted to look at a house with an open house. The girls kept asking if we were moving. I reassured them we were not.
Home for naps. Sara biked on her own with me beside her for an errand up to J&C. Then back home to eat that salmon. My sabbath pretty much ended here. I had some pent up work to do. But not before the quietness, the yumminess of grilled corn, salmon, and strawberry/poppyseed/feta/almond salad.
