Peaceful. That’s my impression of Animal Kingdom on this fine morning. It’s Earth Day and Animal Kingdom’s birthday. It’s also Good Friday. A much more important holiday in my opinion.

We walked thru the Asia section. It’s beautiful. We got the mystical, fabled fast past for a water ride, Kali, for the hot part of the day. We took a train to Rafiki’s World. The place was quiet and peaceful. We watched tamarins without company. We’re having fun visiting all the Earth booths. The hit is a nature journal. My girls have been drawing their observations left and right. The petting zoo was anticlimactic. There were only one or two goats out who stood patiently while mobbed by kids with curry combs. The Puyallup has a gunner petting zoo. We retreated back to Earth Day booths and made cheetah masks. On the train ride back, we sat in the last train car.

Off to Kali! Our first water ride. The intro for the girls to a roller coaster concept (just the concept). Sara looked around with trepidation at first. Getting wet added such a fun element. Who was getting wet and how much. The group aspect made it fun. When someone is grinning across from you, it’s hard to be scared. Our group of eight was laughing and joking and predicting who’d get soaked. Laura grinned from ear to ear the whole time. The fast past worked great also, getting us past the line.

We bought T shirts for Kali. Wayne’s discount, while blacked out at many places, makes merchandise a steal. We snacked on hot pretzels and apples. The snack food here is much better than other places.

1130 Flights of Wonder is the best bird show I’ve ever seen. The silly skit was funny. The chicken with a mind of it’s own was funny. There were lots more birds then just predators. It was just well done and amusing. We were pretty much wiped out. We stopped and revived with some ice cream sandwiches. We found a quiet oasis in a corner of Asia not filled with crowds and an open table. Ice cream is so sweet in the heat! Sara played African drums and we called it a day.

Home for naps. Lunch/snack on awakening.

Finale at 1600 was going to the dock to get to the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue. This is a dinner/musical sow at Fort Wilderness, the campground. The place was shaded. The girls took great joy playing in the playground. We met a family that had been going over a span of 30 yrs and were introducing a new generation. Sara made friends in line.

We were sitting right above the stage with swivel chairs so we could switch between eating and watching easily. It was fun, campy, slapstick humor that made the girls laugh and floated us thru a 2hr time. The food was delicious. We had a bit of kid angst. The food was fixed. The waitress rustled Sara up plain bread, but Laura was harder to please until she saw the ribs. She consumed a third of a pail. Once she got fed, she concentrated on the show and laughed. I really enjoyed the corn bread and ribs.

The evening was pleasant. The boat line was long. We just moseyed over to the playground and hung with another family for almost an hour waiting for the crowds to thin. Sara had assembled a gang of 5 girls at one point. We watched the sunset from the boat and enjoyed the bird island colony of herons, vultures, ibises, and comorants.

We switched gears again and had a last swim. We had the pool mostly to ourselves. The night was cold once one got out.

The girls ate asleep. We watched the fireworks from our room.

The end.
