There has been a myriad of excuses. Rain, cold, lateness, heavy loads, darkness, joint pain. So the bike has been ignored.
Not today. I rode the girls to and from school today. Laura woke up from her nap early enough for us to get to school on time. The morning was sunny, but deceitfully warm in my driveway. So the ride was colder than expected.
The sun felt good. Both times, Laura and Sara played in the playground. It felt like we got to embrace the day and be outside. It’s interesting to watch my Mom take care of the kids and how she has a different style. Last weekend was a rainy weekend, but she looked for sunbreaks and shuffled those kids out the door for delightful play. She has a real need to be outdoors everyday. I think the bad weather can distract me from that need. Not today.
We got new library books by the skin of my teeth before the break. I forgot to go this morning in the rush to bike. I committed to carrying 15 books on my back. We ran into the school to return them, ran down the stairs to get Sara, and ran back up to get new books before the library closed. We did it, but I was breathing hard and Laura was grumpy from being dragged around.
Right now is a quiet period between trips. The reclaiming if my house and chores. Unpacking and repacking. It’s a quiet couple of days I’m looking forward to.
