There’s a tiger on the counter and meerkats in the kitchen. If you know my parents, you know they keep a neat, functional house. It’s not Martha Stewart, perfectionistic clean, but everything has a place. It’s boyscout clean, as in be prepared. If you need something it will be there.
But two families and 5 grandkids ages 1,4,7,8,&11 leave for many moving parts. So there is wildlife in the kitchen and dragons in the bathroom and sharks guarding the hairdryer.
The morning started with friendship. The one I have with Ann. It is as old a friendship as I have, preschool I believe. My kids didn’t even blink up from their cousin play to give Ann too much of a once over. But she’s worth a second and third and many more looks. We had breakfast at the Flying Biscuit. It was too short. Only 2 hrs, but time stood still and we got to be face-to-face friends for those 2 hrs.
The activity was Fernbank. Sara kept referring to it as the bank. She didn’t remember what it was, bit sensed it was fun and encouraged our going. Getting 11 adults and all the transport arranged took an act of God.
We all converged on Community BBQ. That’s a new favorite. The flavors are big. Pulled pork in big chunks with charred edges and a fine sauce. Brunswick stew was ok (Wayne was a fan). Large chunked potatoes for the salad. Mac n’ cheese good, Laura rejected. Fries. Sweet tea- good, good, good.
We moved on to Fernbank. I took my normal tact of following Laura wherever she wanted to go. The waterfall at the entrance of the water exhibit was fascinating for her. Dad followed us and we made a merry band traipsing thru.
A car key got forgot. My parents provided AAA service. We ate cheeses from Costco and grazed. Dad gave a slideshow and we watched the Wooten DVD.
Finally, we stayed up too late with Inception, my gift. Very good, intriguing movie.
Way too late.
