Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is not a holiday that gets lots of photos. It is focused on food.

Last week, I smiled at the thought of this week. I basked in the joy of knowing I wouldn’t have another “event”. After conference and birthdays and lots of other fun stuff, I was ready to relax and catch up on some house stuff. There seemed room in this week for that. Then weather got in the way. The ice and travel stressed me this week and filled my thoughts. It occupied the space and energy I hoped would go other places. It was fun, but I was worried about stuff.

One thing I didn’t have to worry about too much was food. Claire ordered the meal from PCC. We’ve had very good success with them in the past. Even Wednesday, I worried about how it would be picked up. Luckily, Jon just dropped it off at out house.

So, instead of waking up at 5am, I didn’t swing into cook mode till 11am. I still worked. Guests are always a good excuse to tidy things. I finished a neglected aspect of toy teardown and organized art supplies. Without it, it took 10 min to get to crayons and coloring books. By 11am, I was working on brain mold, our white grape sangria gello salad fitted in the brain mold DP gave me. It is our signature dish for T day thanks to Mom and cooking light’s influence. Brain mold is complex. Worth it, but complex. Ice baths, 2 cutting boards, a pot, knives, 2 bowls. Lots of equipment. I threw in some brownies for the girls (who are less enamored with apple pie) and a salad. PCC allowed me a nice nap. We watched Ruth and Grace in the morning so J&C could go see this.
Beautiful, isn’t it?

Wayne picked up the slack and was the finisher. He got all the PCC stuff- veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey, cranberry sauce, and buns heated up and/or ready. The turkey was moist and lovely.

And the brian mold made it perfect.

The girls ran around like banshies. Laura joined her sister in refusing the whole concept of T-day. No turkey for my girls. I even got a few precious moments with Claire to talk.

Much to be thankful for. Thank you God for this day.
