Black market

Trading has been going. Sara has been coming home from school with silly bandz (cheap, rubber bracelets that bounce back into a shape when they come off your wrist). She was given a charity cache of 3. Each day she comes home with new ones. We oooh and aaah over the shapes- different animals. She has been anticipating a trip to the store so she can get some of her own.

Anyone who follows this blog, may remember the emergence of Zhu zhu pets in our lives. Those have turned out to be lovely additions to our home and darn fun toys. So, Sara pulls me into another trend.

We walked all over the warehouse length of our local store. Back and forth. Blank stares from retail staff. Poor direction. We finally found Bella Sara silly bandz. This translates into horse shapes for those not linguistically blessed in kid toy trends. They were probably more expensive. We couldn’t find just generic animal bandz. There was scooby doo, sponge bob, sports, just not animals.

Sara immediately put all 24 on her wrist and started dancing around shouting, “I’m rich, I’m rich!” At her school’s open house, she walked around like a rep from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation giving out grants. Two girls were lucky recepients of free horse bands. I like this show of generosity. Even Laura got some. I’m interested to see what she brings back tomorrow at the black market of silly bandz now that she has some capital.

The open house was fun. Sara’s teacher is super organized. There is some serious learning going on. What a fun evening bumping into Sara’s friends and other parents. Sara’s been anticipating this evening for days. She made the coolest horned owl. She even got to rock climb with a friend.
