I had desired sabbath today and I got it. There were wonderful blessings at many turns today. There’s still a lot of packing work to be done, but we’re moving steadily in that direction.
Last night, we all took a break last night and watched the first DVD in the Life series. It was narrated by Oprah. It took awhile to get used to since she has such a recognizable voice. The photography, as normal, was beautiful. There was one segment about an octopi that laid 100,000 eggs, spent 6 mos tending them to hatching, and then died. This morning, Laura sang a song about a dead octopus. She said, “it’s a delicate song”.
One of the main blessings was the chance to go to church. It’s been a few weeks and will be a few weeks more. August is always a transition month. The instructions for children’s church get complicated, changing whether it is a communion sunday or not. As we left, Sara declared she had to go to the bathroom. I was grumpy about this, but by going back, it allowed me to run into Audra and get something we left in Corvallis.
Again, Sunday napping commenced. The kids got up right on time. We recruited the services of Grandparents, Inc. The kids played, picked raspberries, picked carrots and peas from the garden, picked out their own movie, and enjoyed Nana’s homemade pasta and gelato.
Wayne and I headed to REI. We outfitted ourselves for more camping. My favorite purchase is a lounge camp chair that will likely spend most of the time on our deck. It is so comfortable to sit in.
We had leftovers in the form of nachos. Yummy. I unexpectedly found some hand-me-down shorts for both girls. They have had a shortage of shorts, so this was fortuitious.
I had fun reading to the girls. We’re about to head into the New Testament after all the fun OT stories. I also read Willa and the Wind. We’re also chugging through Aesop’s Fables.
