Today

My muscles are sore from trying a new class yesterday, serious sculpting. It’s my attempt to get more weight lifting into my routine. I’ll try again on Wed morning.

I’m planning on biking the girl’s to another VBS this week. I’ve missed being on my bike. I think I only got one chance last week. I might get to go 4 times this week to make up for it.
I thought about biking in Corvallis. I bought the kids bikes and helmets for everyone. We had too much other fun stuff to do- farmers markets, swimming, tubing, wetland hikes, visiting, cooking, and playing with a house of new toys.

Now I have traveling hang over. I have to unpack all our gear. In a short time, yet another trip, and the big one, Glacier.

While I’ve been doing all this traveling, regular life keeps marching on. A good friend and colleague leaves for better things. There’s sadness in that that I’m just starting to process. Regular school life has kind of faded over the summer. I follow folks on the edges of Facebook and blogs. Babies born, to move or not, missing friends I used to see daily. School starts in the south, boggling my mind. I still feel like I’m just settling into summer. School in august is a jolting proposition. I miss the routine a bit.

My attendance at church and having a Sabbath are often interrupted by the need to drive back on Sundays. Not bad, just different. Change has not left that alone either. New leadership in the future after having the same pastor all these Seattle years. Friends leave. Again, I stalk facebook for news of babies and friends. Are they ok? Remodels continue. New housing. Friends exploring hospitals more than I would hope. Prayers offered in the absence of presence.

My girls just dance thru it all with mostly happiness. “What’s next?” is the perennial question. Isn’t this enough? Probably. Summer just raises the ante a bit with all it’s frenzied joy of good weather.

It seems like it’s enough to travel, return home, survive work, and unpack. But we add social events. This week makes my head spin a little. VBS, block party, horse racing, home group, D&D, dim sum, walking with friends, fixing the van.

On the bike today, Sara said “I love you, I love you, I love you, Mom! I love that I can talk to you while riding the bike. I love that I can help you pedal.” Motherhood is awesome!

I just saw a bunch of heroes in capes at VBS!
