I’ve slowly been settling since our spate of travel. I’m getting to connect with my community and friends. Tonight was an example. We started after school. Off to blow bubbles and snack with Natalie and Rachel.
Next, we attended our 5th preschool auction. Normally, it’s held in the basement. The cacophony of kids makes it hard to hear. It’s difficult to keep track of my kids. There’s a stage that the kids climb on and dance on. I used to worry the kids would fall off and would essentially follow them around instead of bidding on things (when they were younger). The dinner had been spaghetti for the 9th year running. Despite all those issues, it’s a sweet time to see other families. The kids love it and we get nice stuff- movie tickets, restaurant certificates, books. This year, it was punched up quite a bit. Thoughtful centerpieces with fresh flowers. Multicolored table clothes. Pulled pork with a nice salad and delicious coleslaw. The noise level seemed reasonable. My kids are older. They won’t fall. They played and had a great time. We got to see Carly and Libby. We sat with Kjrsten and family. Wayne did all the bidding. I did all the socializing. Afterwards, we both commented how this homespun auction was a lovely evening. In someways, the swag was even nicer than what they had at Sara’s elementary school auction. Wayne got a grill basket and was pleased tonight when he discovered one of the pockets is specifically designed for holding a beer.
We continued on to Cindy’s. The girls played outside in the twilight celebrating such a gorgeous day. We played Who Killed Dr. Lucky with 7 adults. It made it hard to be alone in a room with Dr. Lucky (so you can try to murder him…it’s a reverse Clue like game), but made for a good game. Of course, Burke won. He always wins.
The endless playdate. Hopefully a sign for the endless summer is ready to begin.
