6:30 sunrise walk across kamaole II and onto III was amazing. Took the camera and walked barefoot. The surf is warm. It’s a delight to watch the morning light infuse the world.
I definitely have the feel that we’re at hump day. I know there will now be lasts. Looking forward to a kihei day- laundry, morning beaching, and shaved ice.
Kids are finishing Ponyo. It makes them laugh in such a cute way. Network/cable TV disturbs me in so many ways when I see my kids watch commercials. Thank you for recorded shows on PBS. I have to remember this is vacation. They get to do different things- fruit loops for breakfast, etc. Comparatively, they’ve been watching very little media. We’ve been too busy and they’re too tired.
It is interesting coming to the same place each year. It means we don’t explore other beaches very much. The guidebook spends passages judging beaches. But ours is so amazing and convenient. Beaching takes a lot of effort. Sand control is huge. I’m constantly wiping it out of our beds. Showers for tired, hungry, sunned kids is not a barrel of monkeys either (maybe it is in a way). My goal is just to keep screaming levels low. There’s the haul- towels, toys, umbrellas, goggles, seats, books, snacks, water, camera. The aqua camera has been so fun. It nice to take pictures and not worry about damaging equipment. Why deal with parking, crossing busy streets with kids. May be later. Right now I just want to get to the beach, the same, perfect beach we’ve gone to each time.
8:30-10:30 beaching
Every beach time is a little different. The morning time is best. Both my girls became brave. Sara came with me into water I could touch. She would swim for awhile and then she would make me her horse. It was a game, but it was also a nice way for her to rest. We went halfway down Kam II that way. We all hung out in the surf as a family, floating in the waves. I took the boogey board to the reef and saw lots of fish. Could definitely use a snorkel, but we’re not renting since we’re headed to Molokini.
10:30 was right. Laura asked to go in and was asleep by 11am. No lunch. I ate the poppyseed honey bread from Mama’s.
Naps. No hammering this time. Kids were tired. Beaches are good for that.
Still no pool. We did laundry (pretty quickly) and shopped. Laura got a clone of Sara’s whale. One is Flower and one is Lily. I got a dress for tomorrow and Wayne got some souvenirs. We shared a family sized Hawaiian ice, cherry, half guava.
WOW Wednesdays on Wailea. We left for Wailea at 5pm. Cheeseburgers in Paradise continued our umbrella at restaurants theme. I got a pineapple smoothies which was delicious. This was good because my burger was disappointing (I sent it back once because they put cheese on it by mistake. When it came out, the center was undercooked for my fasts and the bottom bun desintegrated.). The fries looked great, but had an odd metallic taste. Wayne loved his Mai tai and the girls split a hotdog.
Wailea mall is open air and refreshing. We nosed in some shops. We listened to a free concert of slack key guitar and hula dancing. I followed the girls while Wayne listened. We all sampled Lapperts ice cream.
Our rain day had no rain.
