Today was all about the beach at Kihei, Kamaole II.
Wayne got up at 5:50am and ran along the beach. I followed with a morning walk. It was nice to be alone. I had time to read the Bible beforehand, so it made a lovely time to relect while watching the sunrise.
Girls had traditional fruit loops for breakfast and I had guava yogurt-so good. We also enjoyed a Maui pineapple.
We didn’t get to the beach till 9:30am. We did some planning and discussions about our adventuring. The girls enjoyed the Disney channel for awhile.
Beaching it. Wayne helped the girls ride waves. I floated rolling waves with Laura. I went to the coral reef at the point and saw a parrot fish. That got me fired up for snorkeling.
Beaches with younger kids doesn’t involve alot of sitting. Either Wayne or I are up playing with the kids or supervising swimming. If one of us goes out, the other has to watch both girls. The surf was nice and calm. I felt much more comfortable with the girls near the waves than yesterday. I just sat next to them even when they were only filling up buckets with water because the surf was so rough. Sara was much more confident in the water (vs barely getting in yesterday). Laura started rolling in the waves waiting for a wave to break and rock her. She’d get salt water in her eyes and wander around blindly until I could bring her a towel to wipe her eyes, making passing beach walker’s looks quizzical.
Some kind neighbors dropped of a treasure trove of sand toys. I caught a gecko off the lanai and both girls held him.
Lunch was lovely grilled cheese with ham sandwiches with Maui chips and Maui gold pineapple.
The beaching wore out the girls. I didn’t have to scold them to sleep. They dropped like stones. I made reservations at Humu for an anniversary date.
Our condo is ground floor and poolside as you can get. Still haven’t done it. This afternoon, we suffered the concrete jungle and walked to get Hawaiian shaved ice from across the street. It was across at the crosswalk closest to the condo entrance in a tiki hut. It was the best I’ve had. Fluffy as air. It makes the one we had 2 yrs ago at Maui Ocean Center seem like it was chipped off an iceberg. We’ll be back.
No sunset grilling. We had dinner at Stella Blues in Azeka Mall. It was so much more pleasant than last time. Wayne got his lanky mai tai. The kids split a hotdog- Sara the bun and Laura the dog. My steak was good and the purple sweet potatoes were fun, but Wayne got the extraordinary dish- mahi mahi encrusted with macademian nuts and ancitrus white wine sauce with the same purple mashed sweet potatoes. Besides being delicious, the plate was visually fun with purple, lemon yellow, red bell peppers, and green broccoli. The best part were cockta umbrellas. The girls had a blast playing with them and were wonderfully occupied while we finished our meal. Stellas us probably the Seattle equivalent of Chinooks in Seattle. Not flashy, but steadily good and fun for kids.
