Catching the moment

The set up: I’ve finished work. I’ve been ordered to grocery shop for our New Year’s Festivities. I won’t get home for an hour. Wayne is home with the girls. I decide to grab dinner. My mind starts working. What’s good? What’s between here and the store? I settle on Annie’s crepes. I haven’t been there for over a year since I went there on a girl’s night out and it was so crowded we had to wait 30 min to get in. It’s 5:30pm on a Tuesday and the place is empty. I get seated. One of the staff is finishing dinner. He tells me they’ve been busy all day and this is his first moment to sit. I’m glad for that news- that this fledgling restaurant is busy 1 yr later. But the emptiness gets me a dinner quick. Plus it’s crepes and what’s quicker than that.
So in a few moments, I had roasted chicken, mushroom, mozzarella, spinach buckwheat crepe for $10. Not bad. And energy to shop. It was refreshing to actually shop without the kids. My mind is less busy when I don’t have to mind another being. Easier to focus.
