Cabin fever. Wayne has a fever and is feeling very poor. The girls both have their normal energy. Laura coughed a couple times this morning, but has been looking awfully healthy otherwise. Sara’s on the upswing, but is still with cough. So I canceled birthday party and date. But the weather was also breaking (as much as it does here). So I had a plan. It was a bit ambitious, but I did it! It made up for the lack of exercise over the past few days.
So I broke out my bike and trailer. We started down to the Nordic Yulefest. We didn’t go last year, but we’ve gone a lot the past few years, especially when new babies came it was often my first outing.
It wasn’t too crowded but was gearing up for lunch. We went straight to Ableskiver (after bathrooming). As usual, thus once a year treat was lovely.
We saw Asha. We got to make fun crafts. They’re pictured below. Sara made the card for her sick Dad. Notice the printing. You can make out her message. She spelled the words herself except Santa Claus. “Dad, I love you. I hope you feel better. I saw Santa Claus.”
I biked to the older Lucy’s house to return a pink feather boa left from last weeks birthday.
Then was a moment of reckoning.
The rain was coming down. The time for naps was sneaking up. We still hadn’t had lunch. I didn’t want to get fast food. We got to the Market. I got the girls some limonada and chicken noodle soup. The soup was nice and salty. The girls loved playing with the toys in the coffee shop attached to Met Market. I grabbed the ingredients for salted brown butter rice krispie treats from smitten kitchen. Biking home uphill and tired.
I found a route that didn’t feel so bad going up. I felt so good when I was done. A 4 hr expedition all in the name of exercise, cabin fever, and rice krispie treats.
Wayne was definitely not feeling well when I got back. I had left partly to give him a quiet house to rest. He got better after a 2nd nap.
After nap, I tried to get the girls to eat some real food. Sara is even more picky during this cold. She’s turned down a nutella sandwich and hot chocolate. I’m wondering if her taste buds are being affected.
I started cooking peruvian chicken stew with sweet potatoes and peanuts. I took some photos of the finished product .
The girls watched the grinch (the original version- so precious). Laura put herself to bed. Sara and I worked on the sumptuous rice krispie treats. They turned out amazingly. Rarefied butter and sea salt add jazz to a comfort food.
