Soaking up some fun time with my favorite almost 3 yo. Finishing the day at Hi-Life after Laura redictated my day. Girls are both bubbling their water. Their Grandma would be proud.
The history of this day…traditionally, I have taken Sara on a “date” for her birthday on Veteran’s day. I decided to do that with Laura this year for the first time. I thought separating the days a bit would be nice since their birthdays are so close.
The day started with a play. I was nervous about getting to the play on time before dropping Sara off at school. Lovely play at the Children’s Theater. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie…a fun production. Nicer than Good Night Moon. Wondering if Laura is ready for plays. The two young 2 boys next to us were quiet as, well, mice. Laura is very wiggly. She did better this time. There was no sister to wrestle like WWF. She was fairly transfixed during the actually production. Just didn’t like waiting.
Then Laura exerted her right to change my carefully laid plans as a two year old.
My idea: eat lunch at Blue C Sushi in Fremont. Get ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery while I ordered a birthday cake. Laura’s idea…grump, then fall asleep in car.
So I drove home. I recalculated the day. She’ll sleep for 1-2 hrs. Bike to the Hi-Life on this gorgeous fall day. Play in a park. Pick up Sara.
Got Laura into bed. She pops up, still looking tired. I give her a brief lunch and send her back to bed. I head off to bed. I doze for an hour. I awaken to noise and realize Laura never slept.
Put her to nap for real. Now 2pm. Hmmmm. She sleeps till 5pm. I read a book for a good hour to let her sleep. I finish the dishes. The kitchen looks clean.
Recalculating as my GPS would say. I call Wayne and see if he wants to go out to eat. He doesn’t, but doesn’t mind if I take the girls. So we go an pick up Sara and finish the date.
The Hi-Life served well. The place wasn’t crowded. The night was windy and cold. We were happy to arrive. Sara ate most of a grilled cheese sandwich before her obligatory fries. Laura ate a hotdog with copious ketchup. I had more refined chipolte honey glazed ribs with poblano mashers and brocolini. Lovely. We all had a hot tin Sundae for desert. Laura delighted in the hot fudge. She even borrowed some of Sara’s ice cream.
