Swim

MLK day. This is not a complete holiday for me. The kids are home. I forgot I would have kids home and my housecleaner coming that day. So I decided to take kids swimming. They have been talking about swimming all week. I knew we wouldn’t have time later in the week. So we went.

Laura and Sara had a blast. It’s interesting to see how they play. Sara loves being with me. Pre-Laura, all our games centered around me as the playmate. Today, Laura didn’t want to have much to do with me. I got some laughs when I bounced out of the water and made glugging noises. I was entertaining for jumping. My attempts to get her to ride on my back like a horse were met with a tepid response. I tried to pull her in the water and her hand went limp. Sara, on the other hand, wanted to ride on my back while I dove. She wanted to be with me all the time. She’s gotten interested in taking off her PFD lately. I tried to bring a noodle, but it didn’t stay on very well. Today, she jumped off the edge while standing on her feet. Normally she wants to be on her bottom when she is on the edge. I’ve been trying to pull her out further and them support her while she swims back to the steps. She also demonstrated swimming with her knees straight which she learned in swim class. It’s hard to explain to kick from hips without bending knees.

The house feels nice right now. As Erica said,”we’re finally settling in from the holidays.” I have meals cooked with leftovers, I’m a little ahead on this weeks laundry, the dishes are done. I know it won’t stay like that for long, but I’ll enjoy the feeling.
