Sara remembers exactly what we did last year and wanted to do it again.
I really struggled with this day. Columbus and Veteran’s days are rare. They are days I don’t have to work, but daycare is open. It only happens twice a year. I was tempted to work on my review paper. Then I remembered that Sara is going to kindergarten next year. So we did what Sara remembered with some minor variations.
I took Sara for a special day, just her and me (it’s Laura’s turn next year). Like last year, it was pouring rain. We got breakfast a Top Pot doughnuts in Queen Anne (not there last year). Sara found a seat between the window and the countertop. Perfect for a 5 yo for her pink sprinkles doughnut.
I was going to take Sara to Pacific Science Center where we now have a membership. No way! Sara remembered. She wanted the Children’s Museum. We constructed a dog house. She wanted one she could lie down in. We spent most of our time there.
Unfortunately, I had to rush us along. We hit Johnny Rockets for french fries and lunch with Dad. This year we added a movie. Madagascar II. Sara liked it.
Overall, it felt a little rushed. But it was nice to be together.
Happy birthday my beautiful 5 year old!
