Originally, I had dreamed of spending up to a week in Wisconsin during my maternity leave. It’s been since Thanksgiving of 2004 that we visited. Heidi has still never seen our house. It seemed about time to see my good friend. Wayne decided to tag along (which was very fun) and we ended up going for a tight weekend over Prez day. Air travel wasn’t bad. Sara is pretty occupied by movies during the flight. We had to sit in different parts of the plane. We connected through Minneapolis and I was worried about being stranded by blizzards. The temps were in the single digits when we arrived.

The next day was absolutely balmy compared to the evening. It was in the 20′s and ripe for snow play. I guess it had been too cold to appreciate all their snow, so kids were eager to play. Davi built a snow fort.

The kids shoveled and slid and sledded. Sara liked finding her own path in the deep snow.

She’d occasionally fall in the snow and make a snow angel.

Gail and Roger, my surrogate parents while in college, visited.
We all enjoyed lunch at Culver’s, a custard place that makes “buttered burgers”. It’s like Dick’s in Seattle or the Varsity in Atlanta.
The kids enjoyed it.
Wayne and everyone enjoyed sledding one day while I napped with Laura.

I got to sled on a small hill. It was very fun.
Mostly, we just played inside. We wrestled and played

and made snow ice cream and green kettle corn.

I worked with Kailey on making Jacob’s ladder.

Every evening, Sara would cuddle into Kailey and Kendra’s bed and Davi and I would sing them praise songs to get them to sleep.
Sunday, we enjoyed church with David and Heidi. They had a bonafided nursing room that I used for Laura. I convinced the crowd to eat at Pizzeria Uno’s for lunch. It’s memory lane for me. Kailey liked the fact we ate out twice in 4 days.

It was a wonderful slice of life. Good friends are forever.
