Yulefest

Yulefest at the Nordic Heritage Museum has been a tradition for us Wootens for about 3 years running. It means our little Ballard thoroughfare becomes a traffic snarl. Wayne doesn’t like navigating the crowded halls of the museum with a 3 yo, but was game to try it this Saturday when Jon and Claire decided to join us. The sun was out and it felt nice to walk down to Webster Park.

The attraction of the Yulefest for me is Aebleskiver, a Danish desert. It’s made from a pancake like batter poured into a cast iron molded pan.

The batter cooks in the half spherical mold. The cook uses a skewer to turn the delicacy periodically.

Eventually, you get a sphere like a pancake that tastes delicious hot with powdered sugar and strawberry jam. Here’s Mom enjoying the final result while toting Laura in the sling.

I also got to eat Bratwurst to Scandinavian music.

Wayne and Sara went outside to escape the crowds and enjoy the swings. Mom, Jon, Claire, and I explored the multiple crafts in the upper levels. We spent the most time of our time at a German ornament stand. Here's Mom shopping at a jeweler's.

I was pretty tired at this point. I’m still a one outing a day girl. I’m definitely still recovering from birth.

All these photos were taken with my new cell phone camera. I need to figure out focus. One of my blog fans (hi Dad!) has been requesting photos of Mom. These aren’t perfect, but what I have for now.
