Bagels and Locks

Last weekend we had a wonderful walk to the Ballard Locks. The weather was a little strange. One moment we would have pouring rain and it would be cold and windy. We kept walking and 5 minutes later it was bright, sunny, and warm.

When we got to the locks, Sara wanted a snack and enjoyed eating her bagel by the rose gardens. (Thanks Claire for the great photo!)

Then we walked over the locks and to the Dam, Sara was scared by the loud noise of the water, so her Nana took her to the other side to play. Meanwhile I got to try out my new 300 zoom lense. It was nice to be able to get closeups of the salmon fry as they flew through the dam sluice on their way to become big fishies that eventually end up in my belly!

However certain denziens of the locks didn’t really want to wait for these guys to grow up. A kingfisher was having a wonderful buffet day, he would just fly around and munch on these guys as they came out of the dam all dazed and confused.

We walked through another heavy rainstorm on our way back home, and stopped at “The Scoop” to get ice cream. Sara really loves cookie dough ice cream (just like her mom)!
